Cure-all: Ginger Tea

Posted by catie on Nov 14, 2009

ginger2If you’ve spoken to me in the last month or so, you have probably already heard how all about ginger tea I am. Give up the coffee and diet cokes – ginger tea is all you need! I’m not talking tea bags – I’m talking fresh sliced ginger in steaming hot water with a little honey. It’s amazing. It’s tasty. It will keep you from getting sick!

Ginger has been used in Chinese Medicine to treat a wide variety of illness including asthma, diarrhea, colds and flu, stomachache, nausea & vomiting. It is beneficial to your immunity and digestive function and is very warming for those cool days.

Cost note: ginger is much cheaper at the regular supermarket than at Whole Foods – and feel free to reuse your slices throughout the day – they just get tastier with every cup!

Preparation: Boil water, and pour into a mug over 4 or 5 slices of fresh ginger. Add honey to taste, sip and enjoy!

Wellness note: If you feel like you have a cold coming on: stiff neck and achy muscles, headache, congestion and NO sore throat  – prepare a large mug of hot water with a little bit more ginger than usual – draw a hot bath and sip and soak until you begin to sweat. When you get out of the bath, dry off and put on your favorite pajamas, wrap yourself in blankets to stay warm and sweat out that cold – you’ll wake up feeling so much better!
